How To Make The Fresh Coffee Possible



If you want the freshest coffee possible, then you will need to start with unroasted beans which must be roasted and ground the same day you will brew.

However, roasting beans is somewhat of a specialty in the kitchen. You must be willing to invest in roasting equipment that is, generally, far from a low-priced kitchen accessory. Otherwise, the results will be disappointing. Not to mention that, even when roasted properly, the process can fill the home with odors that can take a long time to disappear.

Coffee beans will stay fresh for quite sometime after roasting. The carbon dioxide freshly roasted beans release helps keep oxygen at a distance to postpone spoilage. If stored in an airtight container, they will retain their flavor and aroma for about a week.

As would be expected, the sooner the beans are ground after roasting, the fresher they will be, but you can still get a superb grind and brew even after a few days have elapsed. The flavor may be acceptable after two weeks, even though the aroma will not be anything like it was immediately after roasting.

The key to a good cup of coffee made from purchased roasted beans is ensuring the skin is not broken. Otherwise, oils hidden under the skin and inside the bean will deteriorate unless kept frozen.

Always store beans in an airtight container. Although a glass jar often used for tea grounds may seem like a good idea, it is far from adequate as there is too much leakage at the lid allowing air to enter. But, a glass jar with a rubber seal is a good option. A great place to find the perfect containers is online. Just be sure to store the jar in a dark, cooler place since you also do not want heat or light to spoil the beans.

A better option for storing beans, albeit more expensive, are containers that flush air with an inert gas and then injecting the beans. This causes the beans to release carbon dioxide which provides a natural protection from spoiling. Beans stored in this manner can stay fresh for many weeks.

Grinding at home is the next best option to home roasting, and this goes for event hose with less than superior cooking abilities. Quality grinders are moderately priced and generally not difficult to use and clean.

Grinding breaks the bean skin which means that the same spoilage problem can occur if not ground within a few days. Any grounds not brewed and consumed within one day are probably best backed in a desiccating container. These canisters contain a drying agent that can prevent moisture and the resulting mold or extra oxygen. Otherwise, the grounds will lose a lot of flavor within the few hours. The oils will evaporate and, after being exposed to the air and moisture, the grounds will gradually deteriorate.

If you get anything from the tips above, remember that it is best to grind only those beans which you intend to brew and drink within the next hour or so. Not only will this provide the best tasting cup, but it will also save money from wasted beans and grounds.

o 2 shots (3 oz.) espresso

o 1/4 cup granulated sugar

o 1 Tbls. pectin OR 1 tsp. pectin + 1 tsp. arrowroot

1. Stir sugar into espresso. Cool mixture.

2. Stir milk and pectin into espresso mixture until pectin is dissolved.

3. Fill a glass with ice and either serve mixture over ice, or pour glass contents into blender and blend for 30-45 seconds. Enjoy!

4. Place the plunger lid back on top of the pot. However there are some coffee connoisseurs who actually prefer to press the plunger down as soon as they place the lid on. But the decision is yours as to when this happens.

5. Now you can start to pour and enjoy.

Delicious Coffee Meatloaf Sauce

Meatloaf only used to be popular in Australia, however now it's popular all over the world. This delicious coffee sauce can make it taste even better.

It's quite simple to make this sauce all you need to do is mix a tablespoon of instant coffee with a quarter of a cup of water. Add in half a cup of ketchup, quarter a cup of dry red wine, and a quarter of a cup of Worcestershire sauce. Mix everything together, then add two tablespoons of vinegar, one ounce of margarine and a squeeze of lemon juice with a pinch of brown sugar.

When the meat has cooked for around 30 minutes you should pour the sauce over it and bake for a further 45 minutes at 190C (375F)

Espresso Brownies

These brownies are truly delicious, they are unbeatable!

First start by heating a cup of sugar with a pinch of salt, and a stick of butter in a sauce pan. Once everything has melted add one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and four ounces of chocolate. Continue to mix to stop it burning until it has all melted. Once it has all melted add one tablespoon of freshly ground coffee. You can also use two teaspoons of espresso coffee for a different taste.

Carry on mixing for a few minutes, then put it all into a mixing bowl. Let it cool for a little, however it should still be warm. Mix in three whole eggs and one cup of flour. Pour this mixture into a baking tin, bake in the oven for around 30 minutes.

Black Russian Cake

Choose your favorite chocolate cake recipe and follow it as normal, add in a cup of vegetable oil, one packet of chocolate pudding, four whole eggs and half a cup of creme de cacao. Now add one cup of Russian coffee, to make this mix together:

- 1/2 oz Kahlua

- 1 oz Vodka

- 5 Oz black coffee

Mix everything together until you are left with a smooth mixture, bake this for 45 minutes at 177C.

Coffee really is a versatile ingredient you could use it in all sorts of things, from cookies to muffins and all sorts of candy! It is also well suited to ice cream, the possibilities are endless!

You can even add it to cocktails for an interesting taste, and it can be used to make pies so much more interesting.

Coffee syrup is also delicious plus it's easy to make. All you need to do is mix a cup of sugar with one cup of coffee. Boil it in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves. Simmer for a few minutes and then cool, give it a go!

The espresso method of brewing coffee was invented back in 1903 by business man Luigi Bezzera, who wanted to find a way of brewing coffee much faster. As he was in the manufacturing industry he experimented with adding pressure to the method of brewing and finally developed the fast coffee machine known around the world as the espresso coffee machine.

Some of the differences between espresso and normal coffee is in the bean and the brewing method. The beans for the two different coffees are significantly different. The beans used for espresso coffee blends come from a variety of origins and then they are roasted to produce a very dark coffee grind that has an oily appearance.

The other important differences the two coffees are the fineness of the grind and the time spent in brewing the coffee. Its brewing time is significantly reduced by forcing hot water under high pressure through the coffee grinds thus the brewing time is significantly reduced. Hot water is forced through the ground coffee to produce the potent drink. Depending on how find the grind is, should be brewed for about 25 seconds only.

It is important to tightly pack the grind into the metallic filtering basket. All of this tight packing and forced brewing results in a coffee that is dark in color and very thick with a layer of crema or foam on the top.

Espresso based coffee drinks are increasing in popularity worldwide. Apart from the basic drink, which is a single shot prepared in the above mentioned way. The shots are used as the basis for a variety of drinks based on this brewing method. There are macchiatos, cappuccinos and mochaccinos and a variety of lattes.

Other methods of preparing or brewing coffee, such as filter coffee or pressed coffee, involve a process of infusion, a slower and more natural way of extracting the coffee flavor from the grind to produce the black beverage.

Espresso machines are generally the most expensive of the coffee brewing machines on the market. That's because the technology required to pressurize or force the coffee is expensive. Still, it makes for a good investment considering the variety of coffee drinks you can if you can produce that dark, thick and creamy shot.

Move Over Mr. Coffee! Make Way For The French Press!

Have you ever had a cup of coffee that was naturally creamy? I mean like a heavy cream that sits in your mouth. If you haven't made the trip to coffee heaven quite yet, then jump aboard the French Press Express. That's right, the French Press coffee pot makes the very best cup of coffee you will ever have. Just place the grounds in the bottom of the French Press pot. Pour hot boiling water over the grounds and let it site for a few minutes. Separate the grounds from the rich thick brew using the filtered plunger. This 19th century technology is by far the best way to make coffee.

It was almost by accident that this French Press concept came about. While boiling water one day in the hills of France a commoner who was not to bright was attempting to make coffee. He realized that he forgot to put in the coffee grounds and after the water came to a complete boil he desperately tossed his grounds in the hot water. Watching the grounds floating on top of his pot he knew that he made a tragic mistake. How would he fix this mess he was now in? Along came a man carrying an Italian flag and a metal screen. He persuaded the assumed Italian man to let him use his metal screen. He placed the screen on top of the pot and pressed the grounds to the bottom and poured the brew in a big cup. After giving off a sigh of relief he took a sip, and all at once realized that he just made the best cup of coffee ever.

Today the French Press is made a little differently. The basic design is the same, but made of glass, and it has a single chamber. The microwave version has two chambers, but I have never had any thing good come out of a microwave. The main noticeable difference between regular coffee pots and a French Press is by far the taste of the coffee. Most of the natural oils in the coffee grounds are filtered over in a regular coffee pot. These oils give the coffee brew its overall luster and rich flavor. The best purchase you can ever make is a French Press Pot. The prices vary from $19.95 to $65.00. You will never ever have a better cup of coffee, and that I can honestly promise you.

When you wake up in the morning the first cup of coffee from a French Press Pot is the next best thing to floating on a cloud.

French Press Coffee – Style And Flavor For Your Coffee

The French press style of coffee making produces very rich, aromatic and tasty coffee. It uses very coarsely ground coffee that basically steeps in the brewing water for several minutes allowing all the flavors to fully extract from the coffee grinds. Because of the filtering system there is always some sediment which some people don't like.

A French press coffee maker has two parts: a straight-sided container usually made of glass, and a filter-plunger that pushes through the water to filter out the coffee after it has steeped. This plunger also serves as the lid. There are some models of French Press that are insulated which is good for keeping things hot while it steeps.

To brew coffee with a French Press, you should pre-heat the carafe while you boil your water. When ready, empty the carafe, add your coffee, and then add your brewing water. You may wish to stir the coffee grinds around to be sure all of them are in contact with water. You should now put the plunger/lid on the pot to help retain heat. DO NOT press it down yet, it needs to steep for about four minutes (a little more or less depending the coarseness of the grind).

Once you feel the coffee has brewed enough, slowly depress the plunger trapping the grounds on the bottom. Do not force the plunger. If it doesn't want to go down, simply lift the plunger up slightly and try again. The filter can jam on grinds that are too fine. Just take your time and it will work.

Despite what some may say, it is usually best to decant the coffee into an insulated serving pot. If you leave the coffee in the French Press it will remain in contact with the grinds and keep brewing. This will quickly ruin your coffee. The other main reason to pour your coffee off is to keep it warm. French Press pots are not well insulated and coffee cools off very quickly.

Play with the brewing time and grind coarseness until you get the taste that you like best. Once you've done that you will have some of the tastiest coffee anywhere.
